Stack.com: “Thriller ‘Vampire Academy’ Hits Big Screen Early Next Year”

They Suck At School

More press for VA! The latest article is by entertainment website Stack.com about Vampire Academy movie. Check it out below:

Richelle Mead’s bestselling fantasy book series, Vampire Academy, comes to the big screen as an action thriller by the same name. Set in St.Vladimir’s Academy (for mortal, peaceful vampires known as Moroi and their half-human/half-vampire guardians, the Dhampirs), the story follows teenagers Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir, who try to escape from the school because they believe their lives are in danger.

Once back at the sinister institution, where students literally don’t know if they’ll make it to graduation, each girl has her own unique problems. Lissa, played by Lucy Fry of TV’s Mako Mermaids, struggles to regain her status as a Royal Moroi. Rose, played by Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures), trains with her mentor/love interest Dimitri (Danila Kozlovsky) to protect Lissa—not only from the exploitative agendas of others inside the Academy, but from evil forces surrounding them—especially the bloodthirsty Strigoi, which are known to hunt down her kind.

The film also features Gabriel Byrne, most recently seen in the TV series Vikings, along with Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Cameron Monaghan (Shamless) and Joely Richardson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in the role of Queen Tatiana.

Although it is billed as a romance thriller, this movie seems more edgy and intense than the typical vampire romance, with heavy emphasis on action.
